California Part 2 - Lots of Landscape Pics from the hotel property

Upon arrival to San Diego, we were transported about 30 minutes to the Four Seasons. The property was beautiful and almost surreal. There are way too many landscape shots here but we couldn't stop taking pictures - it was just amazing!!!

The tranquility pool (aka no-one allowed under 16) was awesome!! When you went underwater, you heard reggae music - whaaaat??!!!

Checking out our room was one of the highlights of our trip! Kaitlyn ran around for about an hour laughing hysterically and discovering her new surroundings (which included 2 patios and a fireplace!). 

Her crib was ready to go complete with diapers, wipes, lotions, a stuffed ducky and very cute bedding!

This needs no explanation..

Breakfast was her favorite meal of the day! She literally ate so much fruit we were concerned!! Fruit and waffles every day- lucky girl!!

She must have been tired is all I can say - she has NEVER fallen asleep on anyone! This is probably due to the fact that she did not nap or sleep during any of our travel days..

READ FIRST!! California Part 1 - Seascape Resort Pics

We're back! We got home last night and are in full relaxation mode today (minus the annoying annual Dream Cruise issues)..We survived our first vacation with a 1 year old! It was a great vacation to the West Coast and....warning..... we took lots of pictures so here it goes:

Our first stop was Monterrey, California where we drove about an hour out to Aptos, California to "Seascape Resort" for the Gurin family reunion. You'll see me taking my first plane trip (in my pj's cause it was a very early start for us!), some shots from our room, and some beautiful pics of a sunrise walk that mommy and I took on our first morning in California.

Later that day, I stayed with grandma gurin while mom and dad went for a 2 hour "champagne and brunch" cruise on a 70 foot sailboat with some of the reunion clan...

Our tour guide gave us the scoop on how bad we are for throwing out plastic in the ocean. She even busted out some very graphic photos of the damage it causes to our marine-life..as we drank champagne out of plastic cups!! (we brought it up..apparently the plastic was recycled - few!)

The majority of my stay at Seascape was spent attempting to get up the stairs..any how, any way. Mom and dad resorted to blocking the stairs with luggage, chairs, my stroller, a rolling desk, whatever worked...

...in the airport waiting to leave for San Diego. This was literally the only nap I took while in any airport or airplane. It was about 30-45 minutes tops.

We're off to the West Coast!

Once again, I have no pictures but I'm sure I will make up for it when we return. We are off to the airport at 5:15am tomorrow morning! We managed to get all of her stuff into 1 suitcase and 1 carry-on bag. I'm sure we over packed but its better to be safe than sorry. We will be just outside of Monterrey, California until Sunday morning at the Gurin family reunion (get the Bloody's ready mom and Uncle Daniel!) and then Jim, Kaitlyn, and I are flying down to San Diego until next Friday.

Thank you all for your phone calls, thoughts, and prayers over the past couple of weeks. Fortunately, the pulmonologist took 1 look at her and said there was nothing he wants to do except wait it out! And it looks like he was right...Kaitlyn seems to be almost 100% now (except for 2 top molars coming in which are making her very cranky). But nothing that a little Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, Claritin, Neosporin, Mylicon, Eucerin or Teething Tablets can't fix. I probably won't post until we get back - see you all then with lots of pictures I'm sure!!!

It has been a hard week to say the least. 

Wednesday night, we were back in the Emergency Room because her breathing was still very labored. After 4 hours of screaming, crying, and misery, Kaitlyn was admitted to Beaumont. Once we got to the room, she was inconsolable and her breathing was becoming worse. She got so worked up that she vomited everywhere and gave us a horrible scare (as evidenced by me running down the hospital hallway screaming for a doctor)..

The doctors decided that she needed an IV if she wasn't able to keep food down. It took over an hour to put in the IV because they couldn't find a vein. When they brought her back from the procedure room, with the IV in her foot, it was terrible. They had taped the IV to her foot with a straight board to keep her from kicking it out. During the night, she continued to be inconsolable. After an hour or so (mind you this is like 4am..) I looked at her foot and it was swollen about 2 sizes. I immediately called for help and they quickly took the IV out because it was leaking and her foot was as hard as a rock. Now it had been a whole 24 hours without any sleep for Kaitlyn.

The next day, she tested positive for influenza which caused a horrible episode of croup (narrowing of the airway). They also found a narrowing of her trachea in a chest x-ray. The hospital staff put signs on our door saying "contamination possible" and "take precautions when entering". We were not allowed to leave our hospital room!!! Try keeping a 1 year old in 1 room for 4 days..not fun.

She received breathing treatments every 2 hours and steriods to help open her airway. Finally on Saturday, we were cleared to leave. She improved slightly on Saturday and Sunday but today seems to be struggling again.

We have an appointment with a pediatric lung specialist today so hopefully he will be able to get to the bottom of this. We are crossing our fingers to be able to travel to California on Friday.
